The SimuWHEELgt steering wheel box is designed to be an economical solution to adding a fully functional steering wheel to Direct Drive wheel systems based on the Granite Devices SimuCUBE control board. This steering wheel box interfaces directly with the SimuCUBE in a plug and play fashion and functions as part of the SimuCUBE when connected.

The SimuWHEELgt will not work as a direct USB system but can be used in conjunction with the PSUSB_28 or PSUSB_28lc for USB functionality. USB functionality is not needed when used with the SimuCUBE.

The SimuWHEELgt is designed to be compatible with a majority of standard real world steering wheels with 70mm or 74mm PCD. The paddle switch mount adjustibility allows for a range of wheel diameters from approx 300 - 350mm. Some flat wheels may need a spacer between the box and the wheel for proper clearance of the wheel grips. PS1004 Spacers are available to move the paddles further from the wheel rim for additional finger space.

Connection:
Connect the Included RJ45 cable to the X12 upper location on your SimuCUBE. When looking at the connectors this would be the Upper/Left RJ45 Input toward the Servo Connections. If you purchased the Sheilded Cable there is no difference in installation.

Paddle Adjustments:
To adjust the Paddle Switch mounting width you will need a TORX T-8 driver in order to remove the screws holding the rear plate and the paddles in place. This driver MUST be of a thin style, T-Handle, or standard diameter as a larger diameter 1/4" Insert driver will not fit to remove the paddle screws. Once opened there are four screws that hold the paddle mounting plates in place. To adjust their width you can use any of the three overlapping positions.

NOTE: DO NOT over tighten the screws as you may strip the plastic housing. Turn only so that there is a snug resistance and no play.

The SimuBOX_7c button box is designed to be a plug and play button interface for the SimuCUBE. The format of this box is designed in a manner that allows it to be easily used as a Black Box, Pit Stop Options, or General function control panel. The square design allows you to rotate the box in any manner to facilitate how you wish to have the buttons placed. The singlular button along an outside row allows for easy tactile indexing when used with Virtual Reality.

This box is designed to allow for three options for encoders such as Brake Bias, Traction Control, and Engine Mapping or any other combination of controls that would be better suited to a rotary style input. As well there is one Button input that is common accross all three encoders (press any encoder to initiate the button press). The straight design of the box allows for many mounting options, vertically or horizontally. The PSB_3e also allows for excellent Virtual Reality usage as it is easy to tactile index.

In the SimuCUBE Configuration Tool (version 0.11.1 or Later) enter the Analog and Button setup and select either the "Set X12 Upper for encoder use" OR "Set X12 Lower for encoder use" checkbox depending upon which port you have connected the PSB_3e to.

The PSUSB_28x Modular USB Interface box is designed to allow use of up to 4 of our SimuWHEEL or SimuBOX devices to be used at one time through a single USB connection. The "x" stands for Extended and the unit in Standard form will provide individual recognition of 28 different inputs. When the internal shift switch is activated the PSUSB_28x has the ability to input 54 individual button presses by doubling the functionality of each Button or Encoder input through the use os a Single shift button on the #1 device. Multiple PS_USB's can be used on the same system allowing for many devices to be connected and scattered throughout your rig for easy access whle driving. The PSUSB_28x has full encoder support through port selection which allows for the use of multiple PSB_3e encoder boxes which have a 3 encoder + 1 button interface, Encoder doubling is acheived through use of the "shift" functionality. Each port allows for 7 button connections and are fully Diode isolated and can be used for DIY options using the PS_SSi device interface module in our DIY Section.

Connection:
Connect the included USB cable to PSUSB_28x's micro USB port and to your computer or hub. Windows should automatically setup the device for use.

Connection of Modular Devices:
The four RJ45 ports (1, 2, 3, & 4) on the PSUSB_28x modular USB box allows for connection of up to 4 SimuWHEEL or SimuBOX devices. Each port inputs 7 buttons numbered in assending port order (i.e. Buttons 1-7 are on Port 1). Ports 2, 3, and 4 can be converted for use with up to 3x PSB_3e encoder boxes

Setting up for Ports for Encoder Use:
To set ports 2, 3, & 4 for encoder use you need to open the PSUSB_28 using a T-8 Torx driver to remove the three screws holding the cover plate. Once done there is a 2 position DIP switch to the right of the RJ45 ports. Default setting of these switches is both OFF. The number of ports in decending order to use for encoders is determined by these switches. Turning switch 1 on will change Port 4 to encoder use, turning on switch 2 will change Ports 3 & 4, and turning on both switches (1 & 2) will chnage ports 2, 3 & 4. The PSUSB_28 will recognise button presses when in Encoder mode is enabled but will reject simultaneous button presses on paired encoder inputs.

Setting up the PSUSB_28x Shift function:
Open the PSUSB_28 using a T-8 Torx driver to remove the three screws holding the cover plate. Once done there is a single switch just above the USB port, this swich will need to be switched to toggle switch mode. Default setting of this switch is OFF (non-switch mode). All four ports will be put into extended HID mode when switch is enabled allowing up to 54 individual inputs. The #7 button on port one will be reallocated to the SHIFT button and will activate all button secondary commands when held (yellow Button on SimuWHEEL boxes). All Buttons and Encoders will be double function and Encoder programming will still work as indicated above. Extended Mode Functionality MAY not work with all programs, with these programs ONLY 32 button inputs will be accessible.

NOTE: when reinstalling cover DO NOT over tighten the screws as you may strip the plastic housing. Turn only so that there is a snug resistance and no play.

Please contact us at simulation@penguinrc.com if you would like to upgrade your original release PSUSB_28 to the new functionality of the PSUSB_28x. This upgrade in most cases is not difficult but will require a firmware flash and a selection of shift mode via a jumper rather than a switch, a few models shipped do not have this jumper installed and those will either need to be sent back to us for upgrade OR the user will have to be capable of adding this switch (we will provide the switch).
